Description
An out and back and out and back!
Head into Wales and follow the divine Usk Valley for your first stop at Talybont on Usk; I highly recommend the stores for some hot food! Through Brecon to Trecastle where you then climb over past Usk Reservoir and to the Tywi Valley. Follow to Carmarthen and on along the estuary for your second control at Llanseffan beach. Retrace your steps to Bristol albeit with a slight deviation for some quality 24hr Services at Crickhowell!
My floor is available to catch some winks along with food and drinks.
Now off to another coast you go! Use the Whitchurch Way for a predominantly traffic free exit passing Chew Lake and over The Mendips. Descend Cheddar Gorge for you next control in the village. Over the Somerset Levels you go. Once you hit Ham Hill the Dorset bumps begin as you head through Axeminster to Seaton. I highly recommend Daisy's Cafe for propper grub before you turn and head back to Bristol.
Whilst this is an AAA 600 it isn't at the pointy end and consists predominantly of several large climbs that you'll have the pleasure of doing in both directions.

Well organised ride with welcoming controls
I was grateful for the 7am start and the cycling routes in Bristol to clear the city before the morning commute began. We were made welcome in Yatton.
There are wonderful countryside vistas on the way to Westbury. The towns of Marlborough and Malmesbury are very attractive. The ride back to Bristol seemed to be a long climb into the wind, while the descent into Bristol on cycle routes was sheltered. We arrived back at headquarters where Will congratulated us for finishing.
I will do this ride again next year
Lovely mid-week adventure
The weather gods smiled on us again as we rolled out of Bristol on the Shifty 200. A fantastic ride with easy controls and a varied and spectacular route. Many thanks Will for helping us busy weekenders out with this mid-week special!
Greate Route, Magnificent (and superstar) organiser
A tough day > night > day ! Made to feel very welcome. Incredible how much time Will gives to organise the events and put himself out to help others. Thank You !
Great route and faultless organisation
A series of midweek events is perfect for those of us who struggle to get away at the weekends and I’m hugely grateful to the organizer. The event ran just as smoothly as you’d expect based on the user friendliness of this website and the route was great – challenging without being daft and lots of smaller roads through an area of the country that I was not as all familiar with. Route cards and gpx were spot on, as was the friendly welcome on my return to the hq. Weather was dreadful, but you can’t have it all! I’ll be back for more later in the year ?
