Brilliant day out
Stunningly simple yet effective organisation. Great atmosphere. Scenic landscape. Cake. Lots of cake.
Excellent route, really enjoyable, great views.
Quiet roads, lots of hills, good fun. Friendly audax riders all having a good time.
Challenging and rewarding
A challenging and rewarding route, with some stiff climbs and fantastic views.
Well organised ride with welcoming controls
I was grateful for the 7am start and the cycling routes in Bristol to clear the city before the morning commute began. We were made welcome in Yatton.
There are wonderful countryside vistas on the way to Westbury. The towns of Marlborough and Malmesbury are very attractive. The ride back to Bristol seemed to be a long climb into the wind, while the descent into Bristol on cycle routes was sheltered. We arrived back at headquarters where Will congratulated us for finishing.
I will do this ride again next year
What a stunning route
A beautiful scenic route on lovely quiet lanes. Very well organised. Lots of Wills Hills but a nice flat run in from Wellow at the end. We’d recommend having a coffee stop at Rocky Mountain garden centre in Maesbury to keep the legs well fuelled until the official control at Maiden Bradley. We were also very grateful for 28mm tyres are there are plenty potholes
Lovely mid-week adventure
The weather gods smiled on us again as we rolled out of Bristol on the Shifty 200. A fantastic ride with easy controls and a varied and spectacular route. Many thanks Will for helping us busy weekenders out with this mid-week special!
Chasing Sorcerer 2026
Second time out for me on this ride and my comments have to be the same as 2025. A challenging ride with spectacular rewards. Well done Will and thanks chap
Great Audax!
Great route, an ideal early-season blast. As ever from GWR excellent organisation. Thank you for a great day out. Even had sunshine and no rain, although the water logged countryside provide plenty of dampness.
A wonderful way to see the year out
This as my second outing of the FFF500 and loved it… was lucky to be able to team up with a couple of other guys. Made day 1 magical, running into the Northampton Travelodge at around 330km. Up late and left at 5.50am, really enjoyed this section as dark turned to light (well, dark grey really). Much of the ride is in the dark and naturally cold and damp in places, but with the right kit it was fine. 2nd control was a bit dire as the cafe owner of Legends said there was nothing else open, only to find he was talking rubbish as we left the town. Really recommend this ride, it’s like an exclusive club!
Excellent ride, only one tough climb
I travelled from London for this ride because I wanted to see the Somerset Levels and I was not disappointed: I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The route provided was probably the best I’ve ever used, with my Garmin 1050 speaking all the instructions including controls and danger points. Ridewithgps on a phone does the same, I just prefer to use my Garmin.
I’m not quite sure what “rainbow flat” means; my Garmin showed 12 climbs but personally I only found one difficult. I’m in my eighth decade; younger riders would probably shrug it off.
I loved the views and the dramatic skies.
